Did you know the greater Lansing area is home to over a dozen breweries, distilleries and wineries? Currently, there are nine breweries in the area with more planned to open this year. Whether you are looking for a unique food pairing or a microbrewery with a fun environment, there is a brewery for you in the area! Here are our top three:
Lansing Brewing Company: Lansing Brewing Company is one of the oldest breweries in the area. It opened in 1898 but was shut down during the prohibition. One hundred years later it reopened as the brewery it is today. They offer a wide variety of both food and beer. They have three signature beers that are always available and the rest rotate seasonally. I would definitely recommend the Amber Cream Ale, the first beer created there.
Midtown Brewing Company: Midtown Brewing Company prides itself on the use of local foods. Many of the items on the menu are from local farms. They offer 14 Michigan beers, five of which are theirs. They also have several Nitro beers on tap! Midtown Brewing Company is located at 402 South Washington in Lansing.
Old Nation Brewing Company: Although Old Nation Brewing Company is a little bit further of a drive, it’s worth it. It’s located in Williamston in what was once a police station. The brewery is the product of Travis Fritts’ brewing experience in Germany. When he returned to the United States he wanted to spread his love and knowledge of beer. My favorite item on the menu is the Avocado Steak House Burger. Love their beer? It’s available for purchase at local retailers including Meijer.
These three are just a taste of the breweries the greater Lansing area has to offer. For a full list of breweries in the area visit: http://www.lansing.org/things-to-do/breweries-wineries-and-distilleries/
