Are you stuck in East Lansing for the Fourth of July? Are a majority of your friends leaving you to go “up north?” Don’t worry, there are still many things to do in the East Lansing area for the Fourth, including Fireworks to be seen, beaches to swim at, and sports to be watched. You can do all these things without having to travel far!

Fireworks – If you are looking to see some fireworks, Lansing and Meridian are both having firework shows on the Fourth! Bring a blanket and some snacks to enjoy while watching the fireworks!

Parks – You don’t have to go up north to enjoy swimming in a lake! Thankfully in Michigan there is a lake almost everywhere you turn. Within ten miles of East Lansing you have Hawk Island County Park, Lake Lansing Park South and Valhalla Park. All have beaches and areas where you can have a picnic!

Parades – There will be several parades going on in the area, the closest one, the Lansing 2016 4th of July Celebration is your best bet! If you’re looking for a small-town feel and want to get out of town, Mason, a town about 20 minutes south of East Lansing, hosts a nice parade as well.

Most local restaurants and bars will also be having specials on the 4th. They are not yet posted so keep your eye out for those being announced closer to the date! No matter how you decide to spend your 4th of July, the East Lansing area is where to be!
