October Memories

October is arguably one of the most action-packed, enjoyable times of the year to be on Michigan State’s campus. With some of the biggest football games (who else can’t wait to go wolverine hunting?), awesome Halloween activities and other various autumn events, campus and its surrounding areas are just buzzing with fun. Here, some students share some of their favorite October memories and experiences they’ve had while at MSU.

Hannah Watts – Junior, Journalism

“RHA threw a fall festival in the courtyard between Snyder-Phillips and Mason-Abbot hall my sophomore year and they organized hayrides for students throughout campus. Campus is just so beautiful in the fall!”

Morgan Blain – Junior, Human Development & Family Studies

“Last year my roommate and I carved pumpkins with the State symbol and put them on our front porch and drank apple cider!”

Eugene Amponsah – Junior, Applied Engineering/Packaging

“My sophomore year, my fraternity pledge class and I had the opportunity to throw a party. It was super fun because we came up with the idea of throwing a scary Halloween-Highlight party. We bought tarp and put it all over the basement of the house, and we spray-painted everywhere, and had black lights and glow sticks. As a group we all wore neon shirts and pink bandanas as our last-minute Halloween costumes. It was truly an unforgettable experience with
my brothers.”

Simone Merendi – Junior, Statistics

“I’m an international student from Italy, and back home we don’t really celebrate Halloween on as grand of a scale as in America. I was so excited to be able to dress up and eat tons of candy and celebrate with my new American friends. I especially thought it was fun to celebrate Halloween at Michigan State, because it was fun to see all of the students in costumes walking down the streets and some of my professors have even handed out candy.”

Sultan Qiblawi – Senior, Human Biology

“My sophomore year, the lab assistants of my biology 1 lab allowed us to wear our costumes to the lab because it was a night lab that took place from 7 to 9:50 p.m. We had a competition for the best dressed groups and the winner of the competition would receive a small prize. Granted, nobody ended up really winning a prize, but it was a cool preface and created a pretty chill, fun atmosphere to an otherwise painful night lab!”

Paris Johnson – Junior, Apparel & Textile Design

“My favorite October memory was the fact that the MSU vs. U of M game and Halloween fell on the same weekend my sophomore year. There were so many people on campus! It really made for a great, unforgettable weekend at Michigan State!”
