Book-to-Movie Adaptations Expected in 2019

This year brought loads of successful book-to-movie adaptations, including Crazy Rich Asians, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Sharp Objects, Peter Rabbit, A Wrinkle in Time, Love Simon, and others. Luckily, 2019 brings many more, including the following:

 

The Knife of Never Letting Go

Movie Title: Chaos Walking

Genre: Young Adult Dystopian

Release Date: March 1, 2019

This dystopian story follows the life of 12-year-old Todd Hewitt, who lives in a town of only men where everyone can hear each other’s thoughts. Follow Hewitt as he discovers more about the epidemic that caused this phenomenon and exterminated the female population—with the help of the last girl on the planet. Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley will star in the adaptation.

 

The Goldfinch

Genre: Contemporary Fiction

Movie Release Date: Oct. 19, 2019

A coming-of-age story, The Goldfinch tells the tale of a 15-year-old boy who loses his family in a terrorist attack at a museum in New York. The book won a Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and was selected as Amazon’s Best Book of the Year in 2013. Ansel Elgort will star in the adaptation.

 

Pet Sematary

By: Stephen King

Genre: Horror

Movie Release Date: April 5, 2019

Based on the Stephen King novel, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed, who accepts a new position and moves his family to Maine. Odd things begin to surface, such as the makeshift cemetery where children seem to have buried their pets over the years. As the family continues to live in their new home, they find that it is full of secrets—blood-chilling secrets. John Lithgow, Jason Clarke, and Amy Seimetz will star in the adaptation.
