You either love them or you hate them, but now you know how to make them
St. Patty’s Day is right around the corner, which means McDonald’s is back with its popular specialty dessert: the Shamrock Shake. You’re either one of two people when it comes to this simple fact—someone who is absolutely ecstatic, ready and waiting at your nearest Micky D’s for the reunion, or you couldn’t care less.
Shamrock Shakes should be available near the end of February and remain available until the end of March… but if you’ve missed the deadline and can’t wait until next February for this minty treat, try making it yourself at home! Plus, now you know exactly what is going in your shake, and McDonald’s doesn’t have to keep you guessing!
Embrace the only St. Patty’s Day drink that won’t leave you with a raging hangover! Or if that’s more your style, feel free to add a little bit of your favorite liquor (we suggest vodka and Irish cream liqueur)!
Simple Copycat Shamrock Shake Recipe
2 cups vanilla ice cream
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon pure peppermint extract
4 drops of green good coloring
- Place ice cream, milk, and peppermint extract in blender; cover.
- Add in desired drops of green food coloring (4 is what we recommend) and then blend again slowly.
- Top off with whipped cream and cherries.
* Vegan alternative: replace milk with desired nondairy milk (soy, almond, rice, etc.) and replace vanilla ice cream with nondairy ice cream; vanilla soy milk ice cream will give you a similar desired consistency.
